Black Friday Goes Analogue and Why Optimized Ads Help eBay Sellers Take Advantage of Unexpected Trends

Optiseller used its online data tools and analytics to examine Black Friday data by looking at how eBay sellers performed during one of the most important buying times of the year for many.

The somewhat surprising results showed that analogue media like vinyl records and books had the largest increase in visitors, with CDs and art not far behind.

“We have been monitoring the performance of categories on eBay during the recent Black Friday period, and the data has shown some pretty amazing results. It seems people have decided to turn their screens off, as the big winners this year were vinyl records and books, with CDs and art also seeing a big increase. “

Richard Falconer, COO at Optiseller

Falconer believes this trend may be due to a shift in the number of people working more from home and looking for different ways to shut down and relax. Additionally, as more demographic groups have joined online shopping due to the Covid-19 pandemic, research models may have changed as well.

Optimized lists help capitalize on surprise trends

While sales of vinyl records in the UK have experienced a ascend Already in 2020, with nearly one in five vinyl albums purchased, these kinds of trends can sometimes easily go unnoticed for eBay sellers, still stuck with old, unoptimized listings.

eBay has updated its platform to provide buyers with a better shopping experience. But it also forces sellers to optimize their listings to take full advantage of eBay’s improvements.

One of the best optimization tips is to use Object characteristics to meet the latest eBay standards.

Unfortunately, for one reason or another, many sellers continue to ignore item specifics and often end up missing out on opportunities, often resulting in lower overall sales for them.

“According to eBay, listings from professional sellers with 6 or more item attributes have 47% more impressions per listing than listings with less than 6 item attributes,” said Richard Falconer in our June Q&A. This year.

Meanwhile, new sellers are often more inclined to follow eBay’s best practices for creating ads today, driving sales as their items appear more frequently in search results. SEO on eBay is as important to eBay sellers as SEO is an important website trying to rank high in Google or Bing search results.

There is never a bad time to optimize listings, and with many days left in the holiday season, now is as good a time as any. Sellers shouldn’t wait to update their listings until the next unusual trend arises that they have items listed on eBay for. By then, it may be too late to take advantage of the opportunity.
