Fourteen galleries from Wilmington and surrounding areas will participate in this month’s event
Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki, the city’s Director of Cultural Affairs Tina Betz, and Jerry duPhily of out and about Magazine invite city residents and art lovers from across the region to the upcoming Art Loop Wilmington on Friday March 4. The popular FREE art exhibit, now in its 34th year, is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and out and about. Fourteen galleries from Wilmington and surrounding areas will participate in this month’s Art Loop. A full list can be found in the February issue of out and about.

Lize” Jones, an acrylic painter whose work shines a light on the women of black history who paved the way for generations to come and embarked on a career journey while radiating grace, beauty and grace. ‘balance. Ms. Jones will showcase new acrylic pieces for her March exhibition and attend an Art Loop meet and greet reception on Friday March 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and live music presented by DJ Tim Dogg. Other institutions featured in March include the Delaware Division of the Arts’ Mezzanine Gallery, the Delaware Contemporary and the Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD).
The Delaware Division of Arts Gallery Mezzaninelocated on the second floor of the Carvel State Office Building at 820 North French Street, will feature a selection of new works by the artist Colleen Zufelt – Recycle, reuse… RE-IMAGINE – March 4-25, 2022. Zufelt, a highly accomplished artist and educator, worked in the studio in the 80s and 90s. His work has been exhibited in top galleries nationwide and featured in books and magazines across the United States and abroad. In 1996, she moved away from her studio and began her second career as an art educator, teaching in private and public schools and was named HB duPont College Teacher of the Year in 2019. She is recently returned to her full-time art studio. Best known to Delaware art lovers for her ceramic work, Zufelt’s body of work also includes clay compositions and vessels, as well as metal sculptures. You are invited to a free opening on Friday March 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Contemporary Delawareat 200 South Madison Street, invites you to its free First Friday Art Loop reception on Friday March 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Exhibits featured this month include Caroline Coolidge Brown and Caroline Chen’s GourmandsWAS Hatch Close to the houseand nature by Donna Usher. E. Shawn Qaissaunee will play original pieces and modern standards on electric guitar from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and at 6:00 p.m. you can experience the art of engraving with a live demonstration of this fascinating process and technique inspired by the exhibit presented. Finally, the food truck Chanda’s Food Bumps will be on site and will offer a mix of tavern and soul food.
All visitors must confirm and follow COVID guidelines as determined by individual galleries.
Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the Art Loop Shuttle, which will leave the parking lot of the Delaware Contemporary, located at 200 South Madison Street, at 5:45 p.m. The shuttle provides round-trip transportation to locations or venues on the Downtown Art Loop . in Trolley Square and venues north of the city center and provide a convenient way to meet other art lovers. The shuttle driver will be on hand at The Contemporary to answer questions and help art lovers navigate the many offerings at Art Loop Wilmington. Reservations are not required.
The Wilmington Art Loop is a self-guided exhibition of visual art presented in galleries, studios, museums and alternative spaces in Wilmington and surrounding areas. FREE event draws local and regional art lovers to the Downtown District and greater Wilmington area on the first Friday of the month, excluding Independence Day weekend in July . Many venues offer the opportunity to meet the featured artists while patrons enjoy refreshments and, in some cases, live entertainment is scheduled.
The Art Loop Wilmington website – a portable guide to the Loop easily navigable by gallery location, artist or venue type – is mobile-friendly and features monthly lineup at least two weeks before each Art Loop begins. The next Art Loop will take place on Friday, April 1, 2022.
