Donald Trump announces TRUTH Social, his new ‘big tent’ social media platform

According to the TRUTH Social website, it is “the ‘big tent’ of the US social media platform that encourages open, free and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.”

The former president was permanently banned from Twitter and Facebook until at least 2023 after the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill in Washington DC.

“The mission of Trump Media and Technology Group is to create a rival to the liberal media consortium and to fight against the ‘big tech’ companies in Silicon Valley, which have used their one-sided power to silence opposing voices in America,” he said. declared the company.

The new platform is expected to begin beta testing in November, with Apple iPhone users able to pre-order the app. Interested persons must register to receive an invitation on the platform’s website.

At the time of writing, the app is not available in the New Zealand iOS App Store and it is not clear whether the platform will be limited to US residents only.

Wider deployment is expected in the first quarter of 2022, the company said.

Despite its “open, free and honest” argument, the terms of use of the new platform state that users may not “denigrate, tarnish or harm, in our opinion, us and / or the site”.

Trump once set up a site called “From the Desk of Donald J Trump” to communicate with supporters after his social media ban, but it only lasted a month before shutting down.

GETTR, a Twitter-like platform created by Jason Miller, a former senior adviser to the ex-president, was created in July for purposes similar to TRUTH social.

In his first few months, he suffered hacks and was inundated with Isis supporters and child pornography images.

Earlier this month, Trump sued Twitter, asking a Florida federal judge to ask the platform to restore his account.
