HERKIMER – Herkimer College will serve as the venue for the 2022-23 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.
The event is scheduled to take place March 14-19. The national tournament will mark the first time the event has been held at Herkimer College.
Herkimer won the NJCAA D-III National Championship against Mohawk Valley Community College to close out the 2018-19 season. The program has made the championship tournament nine times over the past 11 years.
This will be the third time the championship has been hosted by a New York State-based school. SUNY Delhi hosted all tournaments from 1991 to 2010 and Sullivan County Community College at Loch Sheldrake was the host from 2011 to 2016.
Last year’s tournament was held in Rockford, Illinois. In 2019 and 2020, the tournament was held in Rochester, Minnesota.
“Herkimer is grateful to the NJCAA for being selected as the host institution for the 2022-23 NJCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship,” Herkimer College athletic director Don Dutcher said in a statement. “We will be very proud to provide an exceptional experience for the student-athletes, coaches, families, friends and community involved in the tournament. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Herkimer to step into the national spotlight by hosting a top-tier basketball tournament.
The NJCAA said “The 2017 event resulted in 445 local hotel room nights generated by participating teams (parents, fans not included).”
