How to register for the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Closed Beta

The closed beta of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is happening this weekend, giving fans a chance to play Fatshark’s latest first-person horde combat adventure from Games Workshop properties.

Warhammer 40,000 Darktide offers a closed beta from October 14 to 16 where fans can get their first taste of the FPS grimdark. Here’s what you need to know about what Darktide is and how you can sign up for the Darktide Closed Beta.

What is Warhammer 40,000: Darktide?

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a cooperative first-person shooter that pits players against hordes of enemies as they fight their way through a variety of missions in the hive city of Tertium. You’ll play with three other players, cooperating to fight your way from one end of the mission to the other. The closed beta will offer fans four of Darktide’s possible missions during its testing phase.

Players will choose from one of four classes:

The Ogryn is a massive abhuman mutant designed to function as the frontline and tank of the group. The Psyker is a psychically active class wielding magic, capable of casting spells to aid their team. The Zealot is an all-in-one DPS class, focusing on close quarters and enemy proximity, while the veteran will focus on the new shooting-focused gameplay loop added to Darktide.

The closed beta that launches this weekend is still available for last-minute entries. All fans have to do is go to Darktide’s website and sign up, offering a bit of information about their hardware and the internet to help Fatshark know how the game runs on different systems. A video from Fatshark reveals all the details fans need to know about the upcoming shooter.

Fans will be able to customize their own character in Darktide in the beta, rather than choosing one of the few pre-made characters like Vermintide. The lead combat designer notes that fans coming from shooters should be prepared for a melee gameplay loop, and fans coming from Vermintide can expect a lot more shooting than Darktide’s fantasy predecessor.

Darktide’s closed beta will go live at 4:00 AM PST on October 14, 2022 ahead of Darktide’s eventual launch on November 30.
